Fish ichaeloronline shop fertiliser find Gardai found 33 bags containing 1, 750 kilos of fertiliser intended for use in an explosive mixture in a disused fish shop in howth last year, the special criminal court was told. They mounted a twoday surveillance operation on the shop molly malone's after they followed suspected subversives first spotted in julianstown, co meath, the court heard.In a later search they also found another bag of identical fertiliser in a shed beside a house at bettystown, co meath. Four men went on trial accused of offences connected with the two finds.Eamonn flanagan(42), The Square, Skerries, Seamus McLoughlin(66), Balkill Park, Howth and Michael Blount(48), Bath Road, Balbriggan pleaded not guilty to possession of an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or to enable another person to do so at West Pier, Howth, Co Dublin on January 5 last year.They also denied the unlawful possession of an explosive substance on the same date. Mr o'higgins said gardai saw the accused dillon, flanagan and mcloughlin in a car park at julianstown, co meath on the morning of january 5, 1998.They followed dillon and flanagan who were driving a peugeot car and mcloughlin who was driving a daf truck.The two vehicles drove in convoy, eventually going to a house at golf links road, bettystown.The truck reversed in to a garage at the side of the house. The truck, driven by mcloughlin, later went to the west pier at howth where it was parked outside molly malone's, a disused fish shop.Mr o'higgins said gardai kept the truck under surveillance.Later that day mcloughlin, flanagan and blount were seen unloading a large number of white bags and bringing them into the shop. Molly malone's was kept under surveillance until the afternoon of january 7 when gardai searched it and found a large number of bags containing crushed calcium ammonium nitrate fertiliser. Another bag of the same fertiliser was later found in a shed at the side of a house in bettystown. Commandant ted shine, an explosives ordnance disposal officer, said he removed 28 bags containing 1, 500 kilos of crushed fertiliser and five bags containing 250 kilos of fertiliser in granule form from molly malone's.He disposed of most of the fertiliser in the sea and kept several kilos for testing.Commandant shine said he tested the crushed fertiliser by putting it in a metal cylinder and attaching a detonator and booster.
