Digital Signage Management: Does Your Organization Suffer From Sunday Evening Syndrome?

Twice within the previous 4 months, I've been out of town on enterprise when my common locale came beneath a Tornado Warning -not a watch, but a warning- issued from the National Climate Service.

For those who do not reside in parts from the nation where tornados generally occur, the distinction between a watch and warning is the former indicates conditions are favorable to producing a tornado, although the latter indicates a tornado has been spotted on the ground.

The issue about a Tornado Warning in metro areas is that although sirens will wail to announce the danger, they don't dispense data about exactly where the tornado is situated, the track that it's following along with other threats that typically accompanying tornados, such as the presence of damaging hail. In other words, you know there's danger, but you do not know if you're in the bull's eye or some outer ring on the tornado's target.

Radio and tv broadcasters typically fill within the details by telling or displaying the public timely info to help them respond appropriately. Nevertheless, both recent occasions when I encountered a Tornado Warning occurred on a Sunday evening, a time when several radio stations are playing nationally syndicated programs or automated music playlists and many Tv stations are operating having a skeleton crew. On both occasions, all stations, conserve 1, were slow to respond with their usually exceptional presentation of weather warnings.

Getting skilled firsthand a dearth of data in an emergency situation made me think about all of the digital signage networks in use that could suffer from their own "Sunday night syndrome."

Please realize, I'm using "Sunday night" as a metaphor for whatever day or stretch of time your organization is typically off-duty or understaffed. The day from the week or particular time isn't important, just the fact that your organization is at rest.

Are plans in spot to communicate essential emergency data via your digital signage network inside a timely fashion during these periods? Sure, most buildings on a college campus might be closed right after midnight, but what regarding the anatomy lab or style studio exactly where students have gathered at the only time they're able to to study? What about workers on the graveyard shift at the factory? Or for that matter, the drivers on the Interstate like me who see "Click it or Ticket" roadside digital signage messages from the state, but not "Tornado spotted five miles ahead"?

Several useful questions for managers of digital signage networks to ask include:
* During what periods is our organization at its weakest?
* Do contingency plans exist for emergency communications at off instances?
* Have personnel been assigned responsibilities for emergency communications throughout down times?
* Does the digital signage network enable for manage from an off-site Net browser or other remote access to produce and distribute emergency messaging even when nobody is present at the operations center?
* Are security techniques adequate to prevent unauthorized remote access to the digital signage network?

Whilst the primary purpose of digital signage networks varies based on the application, each ought to share a frequent role during emergencies: distributing warnings and information that can conserve lives and reduce the risk of injury. Regardless of whether it is Sunday night or some other down time, digital signage network managers ought to be ready to do just that.
