Sony Bdp-s580 Review - One In the Greatest 3d Blu-ray Players

Five new Blu-ray Disc Players are being released by Sony this year; including a very first ever portable player. But the standout product in the line-up seems to become the BDP-S580 model. This mid-range player is packed full of all the latest extras you want inside a player and at a very reasonable price tag ($200). Coming in line just below the BDP-S780 model ($250), the BDP-S580 has Full HD 3D playback, built-in Wi-Fi for on-line streaming media, Gracenote Metadata Service and several far more useful characteristics.

Simple in its design, the BDP-S580 has made a conscious effort to conserve energy and the environment. Identified on the front is the disc loading tray, display screen, basic control buttons and a USB Port. All other connections are located in the rear on the player, including another USB Port.

VIDEO QUALITY: The BDP-S580 is capable of supporting 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 video output resolutions via a HDMI connection. There are other video connections in the form of Component and Composite Outputs. However unlike previous players, the component video outputs can only display SD resolution. This is due to restrictions regarding copy-protection. (All manufacturers are subject to this restriction.) Considering the fact that most of us will use a HDMI connection anyway, this should not pose any major problems. Video quality is extremely great with the BDP-S580. It has options for preset picture modes and 3 different noise reduction types. As well as IP noise reduction that significantly improves the quality of Steaming video content. All these options should satisfy all high-definition Home theater enthusiast.

AUDIO QUALITY: Audio connections for the BDP-S580 include the HDMI Output, the Coaxial Digital and 2-ch Analog Outputs. Like the Video outputs, the HDMI will provide you with the very best sound. Over the HDMI connection the BDP-S580 can transmit high-resolution audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio) to become decoded by an A/V receiver. Or you may let the player decode the audio formats internally. Either way you choose, you will get great 7.1-channel lossless surround sound. Unfortunately, the BDP-S580 is lacking multi-channel analog outputs, so this will not suit those with older A/V receivers without a HDMI input.
